Raise Your Voice is an immersive art experience , created in partnership with the Museum of the City of New York, that inspires audiences to engage their own powers of advocacy and activism. It builds around the notion that in New York, campaigns, communities, and cultures continuously collide and transform like no other place on Earth. Along one wide wall, Raise Your Voice centers Malcolm X and Yuri Kochiyama, two powerful and polarizing activists who met and collaborated in New York City. These figures are surrounded by other symbols of activism and New York. Along the adjacent walls, bold prompts challenge viewers to consider their own views and the issues they care about—from “what do you stand for?” to “how are you using your voice?”. By scanning QR codes present around the installation, visitors will be challenged to answer the questions posed in the art.

On the third wall opposite Malcolm and Yuri, is a modern example of intersectional activism with select art from the artist’s We Are More public art campaign. We Are More is an art series featuring over 50 distinct pieces that celebrate the resilience and range of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community that’s been featured in Times Square and across the city of Boston. From the moving “Stand With Us” image of an AAPI woman with a raised fist, recalling Rosie the Riveter to the provocative statements declaring Asian Americans more than simply “the submissive plaything” or “the future doctor”, this selection of works helps connects viewers from past to present in bringing Raise Your Voice together. With three walls fully covered in vinyls and a vibrant colored ceiling, Raise Your Voice will transport viewers entering or leaving the Activist New York exhibit to an entirely new dimension.
